Educational Leadership Certification Program Overview
The Educational Leadership program offers a robust curriculum that enables graduates to address the complex challenges facing PK-12 schools. The program combines theory with practice, enabling graduates to address the complex challenges facing PK-12 schools. As a candidate, you will participate in authentic leadership experiences aligned with relevant research. You will develop the knowledge base and skills to implement change, promote success for every student, harness the power of technology, and build strong organizational cultures that engage and respect all members of the school community.

Program Information
The Educational Leadership program offers 2 pathways leading to certification. For teachers with a master鈥檚 degree, the best pathway is the Master of Science in Educational Leadership (MSEd) which leads to the newly adopted New York State Administrator license. This certification allows leadership professionals to work as administrators at the building or district level.

Master of Science (MSEd) 鈥� Educational Leadership 鈥� Administrator Certification 鈥� 30 credits
Our education leadership master鈥檚 degree and certificate programs chart the next step of your career in PK-12 environments. You will complete a flexible leadership internship while staying in your job, build the skills to implement change, promote success for every student, harness technology, and create and sustain strong organizational cultures.
Certificate of Advanced Study 鈥� School District Leader Certification 鈥� 11 credits
The SDL certification program curriculum is aligned with New York State leadership standards, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to meet SDL requirements, pass exams, and take on district-wide leadership roles.
Concurrent Program with EdD
Manhattanville also offers a unique Concurrent program that enables students to make seamless transfers of credit to or from the School of Education doctoral program.
Both Educational Leadership programs are approved by New York State and fully accredited by CAEP. They are aligned with state and national standards for school leaders. Students become ethically and socially responsible school administrators who are knowledgeable in all aspects of school leadership. Courses are taught by instructors with deep experience in P-12 programs and extensive involvement in professional activities. The program is geared towards working professionals, equipping them with the tools needed to lead our increasingly diverse 21st century school communities.
Successful candidates for the MSEd certification pathway will have the following prerequisites for admission:
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience or pupil personnel services experience by end of certification program
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Successful candidates for the Advanced Certificate SDL certification pathway will have the following prerequisites for admission:
- Master鈥檚 degree in education from an accredited institution
- Minimum of three years of teaching or pupil personnel services experience upon program completion
Application Requirements:
- (including transcripts from previously attended institutions)
- 1-2 letters of recommendation pertaining to leadership experience or potential, one from a current school leader
- Essay
- Interview

- Graduate Application Fee ($80)
Students in the Educational Leadership program earn credits towards New York State administrative certification. As part of the certification requirements, students are required to complete the Administrator Certification Exam.
Answer I: Yes! You should have both programs active in ServiceHub. If you don't have both concurrent programs active, please reach out to admissions to officially apply.
FAQ II: Will I receive my New York State (NYS) certification as a School Building
Leader (SBL) and/or School District Leader (SDL) and/or Professional Administrator
upon completion of the Doctoral program at 麻豆直播?
Answer II: No. Completion of the doctoral program does not lead to any administration
NYS certification.
FAQ III: Is it possible to apply any doctoral level course credits towards certification
as a NYS educational administrator?
Answer III: Yes! You may apply 9 credits from the doctoral program to the Educational
Leadership program leading to educational administrator certification. Specific courses that align to the program.
FAQ V: I took educational leadership classes at another institution. May I apply those
credits to the doctoral program?
Answer V: Perhaps! Transfer credits depend on the type of course taken and/ or program
timeframes. Your coursework will be reviewed by doctoral pathway coordinator to determine
if courses may be applied to the 59 hour doctoral program.
FAQ VI: So, how many credits do I need for the Doctoral program and the Educational
Leadership program?
Answer VI: The Doctoral program requires 59 graduate credits and the Educational Leadership
professional development program requires 30 credits. If you take the courses separately,
you will need a total of 89 credits hours to complete both programs. However, if you
apply graduate courses to the doctoral program and doctoral classes to the educational
leadership certificate, you will need a total of 68 credits with specific courses
in educational leadership as well as the doctoral program.
FAQ VII: In the final analysis, how many hours will I take in the doctoral program
if I do a combined program.
Answer VII: With a combined program, you will take a total of 47 credit hours in the
Doctoral program.
Answer VIII: With a combined program, you will need to take a total of 21 credits in the Educational Leadership program.
